Advocates (ABOTA) celebrate juror appreciation week
LUBBOCK, TEXAS, MAY 1-5, 2017. The Lubbock County Board of Judges, The Lubbock County District Clerk’s Office, and The Lubbock Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates is sponsoring Juror Appreciation Week activities to recognize Lubbock, County residents who have completed jury duty and to highlight the honor and importance of serving on a jury.
Included in the week’s activities is a public ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2 at the Lubbock County Jury Pool Office located at 1302 Crickets Avenue. At that time, Lubbock County citizen’s past and present will be recognized for their participation in the jury duty process.
“Preservation of the civil jury trial is the primary purpose of “The American Board of Trial Advocates” states David Kerby, Lubbock ABOTA Chapter President. “Therefore, co-sponsoring this event is a natural fit.”
According to 99th District Court Judge Bill Sowder, the objective of Juror Appreciation Week is to show past and prospective jurors that their contributions are greatly appreciated by the Court.
“Jury service is a vital aspect of our government,” said Judge Sowder. “When you serve as a juror, you not only serve your country, but you serve an integral part of the justice system.”
“We want every juror to feel appreciated and to know how much we value their time and commitment to our system of justice,” Judge Sowder said.
