2018 James Otis Lecture – A great program!

We were honored to have Prof. H.W. “Bill” Brands, as our speaker again this year.  He gave a brilliant, impassioned talk on  the Constitution, and many students lined up afterward to ask him some very good questions .Prof. Brands is an American educator, author and historian. He has authored 30 books on U.S. history. He holds the Jack S. Blanton Sr. Chair in History at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his Ph.D. in history in 1985.

Some 150 high school students from around the state of Texas gathered at the Texas State Capitol at 9:00am Tuesday morning for a tour of the Capitol prior to the program.  They were then seated in the chairs of the House of Representatives for the program. After the program, we had lunch lunch at the First United Methodist Church, where Prof. Brands autographed copies of his books that been sent to the students. The students were then be presented with their James Otis Scholar certificates.
