2020 James Otis Lecture Series Program

The annual TEX-ABOTA James Otis Lecture Series is going virtual and will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020.

Prof. H.W. “Bill” Brands will graciously be our speaker again this year. He presents the Constitution and its meaning and values, in a way that leaves the students nearly spellbound. Prof. Brands is an American educator, author, historian, and frequently appears on PBS and NPR. He has authored 30 books on U.S. history. He holds the Jack S. Blanton Sr. Chair in History at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his Ph.D. in history in 1985.

High school juniors and seniors from around the state of Texas will meet via Zoom Webinar to hear Prof. Brands as well as other guest speakers. They will then have an opportunity to interact with the speakers and some TEX-ABOTA lawyers from all over the state. All students will receive TEX-ABOTA-branded items and a signed pre-released copy of Dr. Brands’ book: The Zealot and the Emancipator.

If you know of a school that would like to have students participate, please contact Jennifer Doan, program Chairperson, or Tammy Miller, Executive Director of TEX-ABOTA.
