Manpreet Monica Singh, First Elected Female Sikh Judge in the Nation

In 2023, Houston ABOTA member Manpreet Monica Singh was sworn in as the first elected female Sikh judge in in the United States, and now presides over Harris County Court at Law No. 4.  Judge Singh’s parents immigrated to the United States from India, and she was born and raised in the Houston area.  Judge Singh tried over 100 cases as a lawyer before assuming the bench.  She also brings unique diversity to the Harris County judiciary, which presides over one of the largest and most culturally diverse populations in the country.  In the words of Judge Ravi Sandhill, Texas’s first South Asian judge, “It’s a really big moment for the Sikh community.  When they see someone of color, someone a little different, they know that possibility is available to them.  Manpreet is not only an ambassador for Sikhs, but she’s an ambassador for all women of color.”  Judge Singh also serves as an ABOTA National Board Representative for the Houston Chapter.
